I am sharing a youtube video that I have uploaded titled MICHIGAN TO MANIPUR WB LIBRARY . www.wblib.org/ Right now it may not be the right time to think of such a high end facility at Kakching, but could begin with a modest one, which is suitable for the local economy and population. West Bloomfield Township has about 70,000 people and covers 8x8 square miles approximately. There are two public libraries in the township. The one on the video is in the southern part while there is another in the northern side (smaller one). Kakching Library and Information Center can have some facilities for the internet access to the students, entrepreneurs, business people, teachers, residents, and othesr for easy access to the internet as the individual access to Internet at present may be costly at Kakching. Power supply is the key. So, Kakching Library and Information Center can build a Solar Power unit and an internet access room. The local MLA, KMC, Schools, Colleges, businesses, local civil organization and residents all can contribute some money yearly or monthy to this venture. The benefit will outweigh the contribution for Kakching as a whole. I also uploaded the video in my Face Book if you have access. Otherwise, the following is the link.

We have to go miles and miles, and for ages before we reach this stage. Yes, we should do what we can, and that's the best we can do. The authorities of our State Central Library, Imphal, and of the Library and Information Center, Kakching should see how they can make most of what they have, and what they can do to upgrade the facilities provided by them. Libraries and information centers also need to keep themselves updated on new developments in library science and on how other libraries across the country and the world are working. Without ideas and vision, money is powerless. Along this line this video will be important for our library people.
I don't know how Library and Information Center, Kakching is working and managed, and whether its employees are paid or not. I know its buildings, both the old and the new, were build by public contribution (both money and physical labor)--I was one of those who shed sweat in laying the foundation of the old building in many a wintry morning in (if I remember correctly) the early or mid 1990s). A library, without a generous funding source, is difficult to manage, because you have to have fund to provide latest information both in the form of news and books, and now in addition to that we expect libraries to have enough computers with internet access. Libraries with just old books and old and no more useful information cannot hold a meaningful place in a society. Moreover, nobody will deliver an efficient and regular service, let alone dedicate his/her whole life to a public cause such as a library, without them getting paid. All of us can do sacrifice some days once in a while, but we cannot do so every day of a week. However, libraries need people with commitment, doing the work as a job, every day. Libraries cannot be run by people who do the work at their leisure, and depending on their moods and whims. No oja Joykumar will be able to make meaningful library related contributions to the town regularly on a long term basis. We should discuss the issue of LIBRAICK funding. Without a well-functioning library, we cannot progress.
I wanted (and still want) people from the LIBRAICK to be with us here on Kakching Thinks forum. I talked with one of them, and I hope they will join force with us. Together, we can make a lot of change.
