Lalit Pukhrambam: With the right kind of information and training from an earlier stage (4 years in advance - aiming, motivating and preparing) and with proper guidance and counselling, our students should be able to get into IITs. To begin with, tuitors for JEE exams should be opened in Manipur in collaboration with experienced teachers and experts from India who have been doing it for decades. One may get into IITs at any stage of higher education starting after 12th for Engineering, Computer and others to Bachelor's degree to various Master's and Ph.D. programs. In our state, we neglect higher education after 12th, that is a big mistake. Government and Private Colleges need to be vamped up, so that our students do not have to go to New Delhi, Bombay, Bangalore, Madras or other cities at huge expenses to get a mediocre education, which can be invested in Manipur itself to boost the local economy as well. Education sector involves huge money. If one calculates how much money is being syphoned off of Manipur in the name of getting a higher education outside, one will realize its impact on family financial burden and affect on the remaining siblings and local economy. When the siblings grow up and become independent, they will feel or perceive the parents' act as discriminatory treatment against them if they did not go outside for studies, and siblings will begin to fight - for haves and have nots. So, the local education system needs to be elevated to the level of at least to a reasonably good level. While in Manipur, we concentrate on the 10th and 12th grade, in advance countries, it is the College they concentrate more as it is where the skiled work force comes out after getting an excellent education.

Lalit Pukhrambam: IIT, IISc, and IIM - our students need to prepare to get into these Institutes of excellence and higher learning in India. Students coming out of these institutions have self confidence, are well trained and possess instinctive entrepreneurship drive and skills. These are one of the most competitive institutes in the world to get into. If you aim at these institutes at least he/she will get to some good place, if not in these places, either in India, US or in other country. US has benefited tremendously from these graduates in the 70s and 80s up to 90s when there were no openings in India for these graduates. Still now many are being sought after in the US, but then now there are also many who can continue to develop their skills in India itself as well. Whether IITians are in the US or in India, they are shaping the course of the country where they work or chose to invest their time. Because of these Institutions and their graduates, Indian technologists and scientists are respected in many parts of the world. Now, India will soon invest more on these graduates in India itself.
Manipur students need to begin to think and prepare for the entrance exam way before they pass out the 8th grade. Hope there soon will be capable coaching facilities for preparing the entrance test for these institutions. May be those few Manipur diasporas who have come out of these Institutes start thinking of providing somehow and investing some of their valuable time to such a venture at Imphal. That will go a long way to the future of Manipur.
Just a thought.
3. Kha-Manipur College, Kakching
www.khamanipurcollege.edu.in/
Can someone at Kakching write a detailed account of the performance of Kha-Manipur College as compared to other colleges, say Imphal College, Manipur College, DM College or other similar size colleges in Manipu? Where do the students go after passing out of Kha-MC for further studies? What is the drop out rate, etc. This college being the highest Educational Institution of learning at Kakching needs a long-term vision to become a University, based on the improvement of performance on the existing facilities and subjects up to Master’s degree and some selected Ph.D. degrees. This will save a lot of money for our poor locals, and also enhance Kakching economy and business. I will write more next time, if someone gives a brief picture of its current state of performance. Local civil societies, citizens, and think-thanks have to work together with the college authority on this. Under the conditions of Higher Education and corruption in Manipur and controlling everything from Imphal, nothing is going to improve at Kakching unless the locals are involved in a meaningful way. It will remain the same old as same old routine – the Sun comes up and the Moon goes down kind of redundant college in a snail pace.
