Rehabilitation of inmates in prisons in Manipur

Crime and Punishment, prisons and rehabilitation, and other topics along this line have always interested me. Two short pieces of my recent book Groundless sort of discussed, though I am not an authority, these issues briefly. My interest was more general and theoretical in nature. While I have been fortunate to have had the opportunities of talking with some former criminals and experienced prison guards and other authorities in Delhi, I've no awareness of how prisons in Manipur are doing. Once in a while I talk with police officers I know, including from Kakching, and while they are much cooperative, they are not that helpful as they don't have direct prison experience. Their knowledge of Manipur's prisons are mostly images of what they gleaned from their training and what they think it should be, rather than the facts of how they are currently at the moment.

Probably most prison authorities will be cagey about their prison if the prison is not in a presentable shape. Yes, how beautiful prisons would be, but how you manage a prison--that can be presented. Of course there is "prison studies".
