Kakching is faced with shortage of petrol and Diesel. People are facing great difficulties in carrying out their daily routine. Oil pump remain closed for last two days. ATSUM has planned to impose indefinite economic blockade in all the national highways leading to Manipur from 16th February 2014 (Sunday). Before starting Ban Oil pump remain closed but it is said that at night they sell @ Rs. 90/- per lt. People are anguished in such situation. Yesterday night on hearing the opening Ksh. Beikukl Oil pump people are driving their vehicle and kept in a long Q. Today early morning when I saw the situation of more than 1 K.M. long Q. Vehicles were waiting for their turn. This problem will continue because Emboi Serto led All Tribal Students Union, Manipur (ATSUM) turned down the talk offer of the Manipur Government yesterday. He said, "We would like to see the State Government of Manipur start moving files and implement at least some of our demands. Then only we will come down to the state capital Imphal for talks," The ATSUM leader further stated, "Enough is enough. We are not one element easily gets smitten by the lip-service of the State Government."

So, shall we say this is the best time to practice and show that walking and bicycling are the best mode of transport or travel within Kakching. Leave the few available petrol for emergency medical and other essential services only.
Manipur businesses can do anything they want to earn quick money by hook or crook. Is there a Government or its agencies to check such malpractices, when they clearly say there is ample petrol and kerosine to run the state for more that 2 weeks? Is there any civil society or consumer's advocacy group that can alert such malpractices to Government agencies or file a case to the police? Know and practice your civic duties and rights, my beloved citizens of Kakching, ask questions at the right moment and place. Do not just remain a quite spectator. Find out where the rumor starts and how these petrol dealers take such illegal measures. Are there any investigative journalist at Kakching or Imphal who can dig up such malpractces and put up in the TV or daily newspapers? Will their lives be in danger? I do not think such practices can occur in other Indian cities in mainland India, and absolutely not in the US or other advanced country. Price gouging can lead to licence termination, fine and definitely jail time for corrupted business dealers.
When will such a time will come to Kakching and Manipur is eagerly awaited.

ATSUM's stir triggers panic buying Petrol price shoots up to Rs 150 a litre
Imphal, Feb 16 : People on Sunday made a bee line at fuel stations in Imphal as the agitating tribal student body- All Tribal Students, Union, Manipur (Atsum-ES)- began its indefinite economic blockade on all National Highways in the State even as the rate of petrol per litre soared by Rs 150 in the grey market.
In pursuit of its bunch of demands including clearance of reservation rules, delegation of full powers to Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in the hills and conversion of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Manipur campus into a full fledged university, the Emboi Serto led Atsum began the economic blockade from Sunday midnight.
Fearing a new phase of fuel scarcity, panic buying was seen at oil outlets in the capital with people, who have already faced the brunt of prolonged highway stirs earlier, making bee lines there since morning. Government officials and police monitored the sale of fuel at the fuel pumps.
Taking advantage of the mad rush coupled with the quick closure of the oil stations, black marketers sold petrol at Rs 150 per litre.
Despite various student and civil organizations’ appealing to call off the blockade in view of the ensuing matriculation and standard XII examinations, Atsum asked all transporters not to take any risk during the agitation period.
The stir is purely in Tribal people’s interest, Atsum finance secretary Hemang Haokip said and added that tribals’ rights and privileges have been denied for too long.
He nevertheless said that the union would think and arrange to take steps if the Government takes the matter seriously and is willing to hold talks.
Warning the State Government not to use force to suppress the agitation, the union said the Government would be held responsible for any untoward incident during the blockade period.
Manipur Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Moirangthem Okendro has already assured normal supply of fuel in the outlets, saying that there is enough stock of petrol and diesel for about 13 days.
