History: In the late 1980s PAL video cassettes became popular in Manipur, particularly in the capital city of Imphal. Private “video parlors” emerged in Imphal and major towns in the state and provided an alternative, informal form of entertainment, which catered to the young menfolk. Pornographic movies, popularly known as 'blue films', were a hot-cake genre among the youngsters then. The literal translation of 'blue' as হীগোক originated among these youngsters and it was initially a code language among them meaning "exhausted."
