In the grammar question of the class x exam, 2017 conducted by BOSEM, I came across two sentences of perfect conditional that seem to be of the patters 1) If + s + had + v3+..., s + would + have + v3 +... 2) If + s + v2 +..., s + would + have + v3 + ... Those two sentences made some questions germinate in my mind. In the perfect conditional patterns, if I am not mistaken, I have learnt two types of patters concerning those sentences in the question paper of the class x exam: 1) If + s + had + v3 + ..., s + would + have + v3+... 2) If + s + v2 + ..., s+ would+ v2+ ... In one of the two of the questions of the exam, a blank should be filled up with the correct form of the verb given in the bracket. The sentence having blank is '' If you....(listen) to my advice, you would have passed'' The other is on the transformation of sentence. The sentence is '' If the boy did not decieve the girls, they would not have left the hostel'' , which is to be transformed into affirmative. Here, as the pattern of the sentence given in the question about the transformation of the sentence is in '' If + s + v2 + ..., s+ would + have+ v3 +...'', there have to be two alternatives for the question of tense--1) had listened 2) listened. Which one is correct? Are both forms correct? I think both forms seem to be correct according to the question setters.

Example sentences: S1. If you listened to my advice, you would have passed. S2. If you had listened to my advice, you would have passed. Both are correct, but there is a time and aspect difference between them. Let's look at the time like this: Time | T1: Past before T2 | T2: Past before T3 | T3: Now (Speaking Moment) | S1 |
| If you listened to my advice | you would have passed
| S2 | If you had listened to my advice
| you would have passed
